To cast a spell
Casting a spell is the work of many months, even years.
It requires three equally important: the knowledge, the ritual and the components.
KNOWLEDGE
Either intuitive or studied. One must understand how to pluck the strings of reality in order to bend them.
One must also know the procedures, moving parts, necessary personnel, required fuel, its catalyst and accessories, locations. All matters.
RITUAL
Location, preparation and execution.
LOCATION
A strong lingering presence to the intent of the spell favors a less strenuous execution.
A spell of searching or divining may be easier inside a library or place of knowledge. A spell of healing may benefit from a place of confort and serenity.
PREPARATION
Runes are symbolic. The intent of the spell must be made clear to the universe.
This may mean drawings, words, runes. Or even theatricals, music and colors.
EXECUTION
The culmination. May take two minutes, two hours, two days. The caster must keep focus, otherwise worldly interferences dissolve any connection and the process must be restarted.
Multiple people can hold the scaffolding together, but different intent may pull and distort aspects of the spell, from changing targets to different effects.
Some spells may require the undivided attention of many, be it willing or unintentional.
COMPONENTS
Fuel to the fire. Equal parts exchange of energy, catalysts and and offerings.
EXCHANGE OF ENERGY
Spells require power to bend reality. Tried and true sources are:
- The end or the start of a life;
- Combustion;
- Lightning or electricity;
- Destruction of an object, of a place or of a dream;
CATALYSTS
A sword may have the required strength to hold a spell until release, or even to call it into reality. A mirror may materialize a vision. A potion may concentrate an intent.
Catalysts are ever new and unassuming. Efficient spell components are discovered every day.
OFFERINGS
Uncertain to whom, but proved true. One would be remiss not to include.
They are consumed in casting, either through the casters or during the exchange of energy.
